The Garmin Edge 500 brings you all of your statistics into one simple device. Your cycling will never be the same again with this new GPS device from Garmin. This device will give you everything you need to know as it happens from Distance to speed, your location and elevation.
Size
Very small and compact size coming in at 4.8 x 6.9 x 2.2 cm. Although it has a compact size it doesn’t compromise on the screen size. The screen display is a nice 3.0 x 3.7 cm. The digits are nice and bold and easy on the eye which is obviously important when your whizzing along on your bike!

It has a good amount of battery life with it also, coming in at around 18 hours you should be more then covered for those long cycling weekends without the need to recharge.
Tracking Features
The main core of the Edge 500 GPS is its built in tracking software. It has the ability to monitor almost everything along your ride. You can easily view at a glance your current speed, the distance you have travelled so far, How many calories you are burning and also the current altitude. It also features a built in altimter to monitor changes in your elevation. Clever stuff hey!
Garmin have been clever and taken your tracking needs one step further with the ability to monitor your heart rate through one of their heart rate monitors. Once paired with this the Edge 500 you can get stats such as heart rate and precise calories burned. You can also compare your heart rate to previous rides to see how you are improving with your fitness.
Training Features
The edge has a great in built training system which uses your previous riding times to set out course times to help you better your performance on your next ride. This is great for anyone looking for a training aid whilst riding round the same routes.

The following lists of changes are based on information provided by GARMIN. Changes or improvements which we consider important or especially useful are shown highlighted.
To view the current firmware version, complete the following steps:
*Turn on the GPS.
*Switch to the main menu. Press and hold the Mode-button until you get to the main menu page.
*Select ’Settings’ and press the enter key.
*Select ’About Edge’ and press the enter key.
*The system will display the firmware version at the second row (’Software Version’).
*Press the back key to return to the previous page.
Each upgrade replaces the complete firmware in the GPS, which means you need to install only the version you wish to apply. There is no need to install any previous versions.
WARNING: If updating from a software version prior to 3.00 the Edge 500 must scan all files stored on the device during the update. This can cause the update process to take up to 15 minutes for devices with a large number of files on their device. You may see a delay at the ’Validating SW Update’ screen and when powering on the device for the first time after the update is complete. To reduce this time, please remove older activity files from your device before updating.Changes made from version 3.00 to 3.20:
